Through the cold. Through hthe Jacarandas. Through the humidity. Now, through Autumn.
Through Winter, Spring and Summer, we have explored the feelings that come with the shifting of the seasons. The Ambiance Series has not just been about shifting, but also about the interrelation between seasons and the symbology of each. Now, coming to the final season in the cycle, we befriend the mysreries and ambiguities of Autumn. Neither here nor there, Autumn rises from the heat and falls into the cold. It is the threshold at the door of Winter, leaving behind Summer’s wishes. What do you wish for in Autumn?
Autumn often conjures images of the deciduous, but where are these images in Meanjin? We have the feelings but not the images, no tangible scenes about Autumn in this place. Those intangible and ambiguous winds have come and we welcome them. Perhaps, Autumn is about creating your own meaning throughout all of this ephemera. In this - the final Ambiance, we wade through these mysteries for something to hold on to, something to feel and something to dream about.

Autumn Ambiance comes to you on stolen land. We acknowledge who this rightfully belongs to - the Yuggera, Turrbal Ugurapul and Quandamooka peoples. Only in the turn of roughly two centuries has Country been transformed. Transformed physically and spiritualy by people who have come from far away, with different values and systems that are completely antithetical to this place. We share music on land that is not ours. Music has come here before us. We must dismantle these systems that we continue to uphold and return the land, its music and its energies to its rightful owners. This always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
